Slow Cooker Beef Steak

This simple slow cooked rump steak became our favorite meat nowadays. This juicy and tender beef requires just 5 minutes to prepare and makes perfect comfort food {keto, low carb, paleo, gluten free}

New Year, new diet. With the beginning of this year we have started a new diet, so called carnivore diet. After four and half day I gave up, I couldn’t eat more meat without any veggies. I started to eat dairy products, fruits and veggie sides next to the meat. Basically now I’m on low carb/ketogenic diet again. (not 100% keto because I sometimes can’t resist to eat fruits and my daily carb intake is higher than 20 g). But my other half keeps this diet unstoppable.

We love beef, but we don’t really like rare and medium rare steaks. After a couple of times of experimenting cooking the perfect steak, we had to realize tough and chewy meat is not for us. So we just threw the steaks into the slow cooker. After cooking quietly a few ours we get a tender meat that melts in your mouth. Well this is more like a pot roast than an actual steak, but it’s made of 2″/5 cm thick steak cuts not chuck roast or other pot roast meat, with a similar tenderness and flavor. Yeah, this is our kind of steak!

I recommend using rump steak, because this cut that comes from the backside of the cow, is usually thick (it has about 5 cm/ 2″thickness) but is way more thiner than a huge pot roast, which means it will cook more quickly, also is cheaper than sirloin steaks or chuck roast. This tough meat is so flavorful when it’s slow cooked, until it pulls apart easily.

It only takes five minutes to prepare this amazingly delicious beef. Toss the seasoned steaks into the slow cooker, cook for 3 hours on high or 6 hours on low. After it’s cooked you’ll end up with a flavorful succulent and tender pull-apart meat.

With just a handful of ingredients you can make a perfect old fashion pot roast style beef. Add more veggies to your Crock pot if you desire to make a great one pot dinner. I usually add carrots, celery, parsnips and even potato next to the roast. The left over slow cooked steak is freezable and is as good as on first day.

Ingredients
  • 2 rump steaks
  • 1 small onion
  • 1-2 garlic cloves
  • salt
  • pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ cup water or broth
Let's get started!
  1. Take your steak out of refrigerator 15-20 minutes before cooking. Rub them generously with salt, pepper and ½ teaspoon paprika.
  2. Place the steaks next to each other on the bottom of the slow cooker, top it with chopped onion and garlic. Pour water or borth until covers the meat (about ½ cup).
  3. Cover and cook on slow for 6-7 hours or on high for 3 hours, until the beef is tender and easily pulls apart.
  4. Serve with veggies, mashed potatoes or salad.
